ABOUT SHARI
After several years as a registered nurse in surgery and various inpatient settings, I attended graduate school on a full scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania, where I earned my Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing. I have maintained a private psychotherapy practice for over forty years while also teaching as a clinical instructor, workshop facilitator and consultant at several hospitals, agencies and universities. I also facilitated groups with cancer patients and their families for twenty years at The Wellness Community of Philadelphia (now the Cancer Support Community of Greater Philadelphia). I am fortunate to love my work; if you are willing to work with me, we can make the changes that you desire!
My work has also included presentations on various aspects of psychiatric nursing, psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and group facilitation at state and national conferences, and I have also represented my profession on national and local radio and television talk shows and have authored multiple articles and chapters. I currently maintain an office in Media, Pennsylvania, and I am a Clinical Associate at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where I co-teach the experiential component of the Psychiatric Residents' course in Group.
Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, I am licensed in Pennsylvania as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and certified as a Group Psychotherapist by the International Board for Certification of Group Psychotherapists. I am a current Board Member of both the Philadelphia Area Group Psychotherapy Society and the American Group Psychotherapy Association, a Fellow of the latter organization, and a past president of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association – Pennsylvania Chapter.
I spend my "spare" time as a wife, mother (to adult children, dog and two cats), grandmother, sister and friend, am active in several professional organizations and involved in my religious community. Our family has camped in many of our wonderful state and national parks, and we have traveled extensively. My husband, Allan, and I have been married for fifty-five years.
